New Policy Implemented by PMDC for Students Seeking MBBS Admission Abroad
Starting from September 2024, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has introduced new criteria for students aspiring to pursue an MBBS degree in any foreign country. New Policy Implemented by PMDC for Students Seeking MBBS Admission Abroad. The following requirements must be met:
✅ MDCAT Requirement: Students must appear in the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) and achieve at least 50% marks.
✅ FSc Requirement: Students must have secured at least 60% marks in their FSc (Faculty of Science) exams.
This policy aims to ensure that students who plan to study MBBS abroad meet a standard level of academic proficiency. Therefore, if you are considering an MBBS program abroad in the future, you must ensure to score at least 50% in the MDCAT exam.
Policy for Students Seeking Admissions in Undergraduate Medical/Dental Foreign Institutes
This policy is for Pakistani students seeking admission to foreign medical and dental institutions for undergraduate education. It is effective from the 2024-2025 academic session. The following mandatory conditions must be fulfilled prior to admission in foreign medical/dental undergraduate institutions:
- Educational Qualification:
- Students must have passed FSC (Pre-Medical) with a minimum of 60% marks if they completed their intermediate education within Pakistan.
- Alternatively, students must have qualified SAT-II with a minimum score of 550 in each subject or a foreign MCAT/UCAT examination with 50% marks in mandatory subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Physics in a Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
- MDCAT Requirement:
- Students must have obtained 50% marks in the MDCAT conducted in Pakistan. This result is valid for three (3) years for students who complete their intermediate education within Pakistan.
- Institution Verification:
- Students must verify that the institution is listed in the approved institutions by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Islamabad.
- The qualification must be in allopathic medicine and awarded by an institution recognized by a regulatory body of the respective country, accredited by the WFME or World Directory of Medical Schools.
- PM&DC Registration:
- Students must obtain a PM&DC Student Registration Certificate before commencing studies at the institution.
- Curriculum Requirements:
- The medical qualification must include at least 6200 hours (with a minimum of 80% attendance) over 5 years.
- Language Requirement:
- For countries where the medium of education is not English, students must spend a minimum of 6 months learning the local language before proceeding.
- National Registration Examination:
- Students must pass the National Registration Examination of the PM&DC to obtain full registration post-qualification.
- Residence and Visa Requirements:
- Students must provide details of their residence and contact numbers in the country of study before proceeding.
- Students must provide a Multiple Entry Visa for the duration of study before proceeding.
