Sindh CM Announces 1000 Google Scholarships to Boost IT Skills in Public Universities

Scholarship Announcement: KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced on Friday the allocation of 1,000 Google scholarships for students across 10 public universities in Sindh. Emphasizing the crucial role of Information Technology (IT) in securing employment in the digital era, CM Murad highlighted the diverse skills and certifications available in the IT sector. Importance of IT Skills: Speaking at a meeting prior to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tech Valley and the universities, CM Murad stressed the importance of developing skills in areas such as e-marketing, AI, animation, and web design. He noted that these skills would enable students to be self-sufficient and competitive on a global scale.

Deployment of Google Chromebooks: The Chief Minister was also briefed on the deployment of Google Chromebooks in Sindh’s educational institutions. In collaboration with the Education Department, Tech Valley has introduced these Chromebooks and conducted training for teachers. Known for their lightweight design and long battery life, the Chromebooks are expected to significantly enhance the learning experience.

Success of Maqsad App: Additionally, CM Murad learned about the success of the Maqsad App, a local educational tool that utilizes Google technologies. Students using the Maqsad App saw a 24.3% increase in test scores after just one month, compared to their peers.

Details of the MoU: The MoU signed between the Universities & Boards Department and Tech Valley will facilitate the distribution of 1,000 Google Career Certificates scholarships. Of these, half are designated for female students. Participating universities include NED University of Engineering and Technology, Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Allah Bux Soomro University of Art, Jamshoro, Government College University Hyderabad, Sindh Agriculture University, Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology, Begum Nusrat Bhutto Women University, Aror University of Art, Architecture, Design & Heritage, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Larkano.

Objective of the Initiative: “This initiative aims to provide students with internationally recognized IT certifications, empowering them to compete globally and contribute to the nation’s technological advancement,” the CM House statement concluded.
